ViewSonic 10-inch dual boot ViewPad preview 02 September 2010 at 6:01 am by admin

ViewSonic hasn’t settled on a name for this thing yet, vacillating between the ViewPad 100 and the ViewPad 10i. What it has settled on is a pretty delicious for factor for an Atom N455-based Windows 7 tablet, and the dual boot option to Android is really just gravy. Unfortunately it’s rather outdated gravy: Android 1.6 is the most recent version to support x86 processors, so we won’t be seeing any of the new Android goodness on here unless Google pulls together another Intel-friendly version of the OS in the near future — which seems relatively unlikely with Chrome OS around the corner, but you never know

+ ASUS prices 10-inch Android Eee Pad under $399, 8-inch Eee Tablet at $300, other tablets too By admin 13 August 2010 at 6:47 am and have No Comments

ASUS just dumped Windows Embedded Compact 7 for Android for its lower-end tablet devices, and CEO Jerry Shen is passing along the savings. He’s pledging that the 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC, due to ship in March, will cost under $399 — and if the Notion Ink Adam is any indication that means it’ll be $398. Then there’s the EP121 , a 12-inch tablet running Windows 7 that’s positioned rather higher up in the market, as indicated by its $1,000 price tag.

+ Hauppauge officially announces HD PVR support in Windows Media Center By admin 05 August 2010 at 2:39 pm and have No Comments

If you’re thinking about going the Media Center DVR route but can’t or won’t get hooked up with a CableCARD don’t forget there’s another option available to pull in those premium channels now that the $199 Hauppauge HD PVR is supported as a TV recorder in Windows 7. There’s been a few updates since the feature was added in beta back in June , which lets users select programs via the Media Center guide to be captured and encoded in MPEG-4 over the device’s component video inputs (HDTV resolutions up to 1080i and 5.1 surround sound are supported) while the PC controls connected satellite or cable TV set-top boxes with an included IR blaster.

+ HP Slate lookalike spotted in China, might beat the real thing to the market By admin 23 July 2010 at 8:21 pm and have No Comments

Once again, China has proven to the world that it’s the place to be for all sorts of gadgetry miracle. Just look at this 10-inch Windows 7 tablet here — it may not be a full clone of the forthcoming 8.9-inch HP Slate , but it does come with a couple of interesting features: a 1366 x 768 resistive multitouch display (ideal for tackling the complicated Chinese characters with a stylus) and a webcam. You’ll also find a handful of regular tidbits on this 1.66GHz Atom N450 device: a regular USB port coupled by a mini version, 3.5mm headphone jack, VGA port, LAN port, accelerometer, Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G.

+ Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that’s seven copies a second By admin 23 June 2010 at 6:48 pm and have No Comments

If Steve Ballmer’s still pumped eight months later, there’s a good reason — Windows 7 has reportedly sold its 150 millionth copy, just two months after crossing the 100 million mark . If you run the numbers — and we have — that translates to roughly seven licenses sold per second since launch, a very convenient number for Microsoft to tout in their marketing communications from here on out

+ Modder installs Windows 7 onto JooJoo tablet, gets touch working (video) By admin 12 June 2010 at 10:58 pm and have No Comments

Yeah, we had a few issues with the Linux build installed on Fusion Garage’s JooJoo tablet , but were things really so bad that we needed to shoehorn Windows 7 onto the thing? Nah, but who wouldn’t enjoy that challenge? One darkdavy has somehow been able to install a fresh copy of Win7 onto his JooJoo , and while he notes that it’s currently running a wee bit warm, the touch panel is working and the battery is lasting around four hours on a full charge.
