HTC will ship all Android phones in China with Froyo on board, fuels fire for immediate update closer to home 29 July 2010 at 2:09 am by admin

A wordy headline, to be sure, but a pleasing one nonetheless. We came across HTC’s Chinese web portal listing the Desire as coming with Android 2.2 (with Sense!) and simply had to ping the official source for confirmation.

+ HTC beginning Froyo rollout tomorrow? Maybe, maybe not By admin 28 July 2010 at 2:16 pm and have No Comments

HTC Europe director Mark Moons caused quite a stir this morning when he tweeted that the company would begin rolling out Android Froyo updates to devices tomorrow, starting with the Desire , but we wouldn’t get too excited yet — HTC tells us that it’s possible a rollout will begin tomorrow, but nothing’s finalized yet pending some final testing. We’ve certainly got our fingers crossed — and we’re sure Desire owners the world over will be hitting that System Updates button nonstop for the next few days

+ Apple Cinema Display goes to 27 inches, 16:9 aspect ratio By admin 27 July 2010 at 7:38 am and have No Comments

Having reached a grand old age in the rapidly cycling tech world, Apple’s 24-inch LED Cinema Display is today getting itself a new sibling. The new 27-inch display clocks in at a 2560 x 1440 resolution, sports a 16:9 aspect ratio, and does it all for the (not so) low price of $999. That might not sound like a steal, but Dell’s similar U2711 (both offer IPS at the same resolution) actually retails for a hundie more at $1,099

+ Apple Store goes down, get your credit cards ready By admin 27 July 2010 at 5:27 am and have No Comments

It’s looking very much like yesterday’s hypotheticals about Apple refreshing its hardware are about to bear fruit. The online store has been put on temporary hiatus — presumably to get all those delicious new specs and pictures in — and we can probably expect it to churn back into action around the company’s typical 8.30AM timeslot. Well it’s not the full 4.1 we were expecting… but here’s a little tidbit from Apple.

+ Confirmed: HTC Sync lets tethered AT&T Aria sideload apps By admin 11 July 2010 at 11:48 am and have No Comments

Looks like more than HTC’s description was erroneous yesterday afternoon — we’ve just confirmed that the HTC Sync desktop client for the AT&T Aria allows users to install third-party apps on non-rooted devices, just as promised . We ran some quick tests, and while it doesn’t actually enable anything on the handset end, it most certainly does allow those of you with Windows PCs (or VMware) to sideload APKs like Swype over USB with a simple drag-and-drop maneuver. Given how quickly the company sought to correct our original post on the subject, we’d expect HTC will be issuing a rather different version of the software soon, so hit up that source link, pound in your serial number, grab the EXE, and get while the getting’s good.

Well, it looks like Droid Incredible owners might soon be rewarded with more than a $25 gift card — Droid Life is reporting that the phone is set to get an OTA update that will add some of the most oft-requested features. That includes mobile hotspot functionality, 720p video recording and, last but not least, the familiar Droid red eye boot animation that’s been curiously absent.
