Sony Bloggie Touch preview: an actually simple ’simple camcorder’ 03 September 2010 at 8:31 am by admin

Maybe we’re a bunch of idiots, but while the Flip and its ultra-simple camcorder ilk have certainly made shooting video simpler and more accessible for the masses, we still find many of these cameras surprisingly unintuitive or just “blah” at doing what they do (Kodak’s otherwise excellent Zi8 and PlaySport cameras come to mind) when it comes to UI. After playing with the horrendous Flip Slide HD , we were almost sure touchscreens would act as another obstacle to using these things, but of all people, Sony has come to the rescue. We found the original Bloggie line very unimpressive, but this new Bloggie Touch crop is exactly as easy to use as you’d imagine a one button device would be.

+ Apple claims 50 percent of portable gaming market, iPod touch ‘outsells Nintendo and Sony combined’ By admin 01 September 2010 at 12:26 pm and have No Comments

Nintendo famously called Apple the enemy of the future in the video gaming space, and by golly, it looks like the Japanese giant was right; Steve Jobs just told an audience that the iPod touch alone outsells Nintendo’s DS and Sony’s PlayStation Portable combined, worldwide.

+ Sony: PlayStation 3 Blu-ray 3D update due in October By admin 01 September 2010 at 11:52 am and have No Comments

Despite what we’d heard before , Sony announced today at IFA that the firmware update bringing 3D Blu-ray playback to the PlayStation 3 will not arrive this month, instead pushed back to October which, we are told, is an entire 30 days away. until then we’ll have to live with the recent MotorStorm 3D game that recently popped up on PSN and a slightly-lower res version of Wipeout . Unfortunately, there still aren’t many movies to watch for the time being, and even the most ardent early adopters may want to wait until Sony rolls out the Michael Jackson’s This Is It – 3D Enhanced Edition and Alice in Wonderland 3D bundles it also announced.

Remember Sony’s Bloggie line of pocket camcorders announced back at CES? While those may have been a bit forgettable, the company’s just-announced Bloggie Touch video camcorder makes a considerably stronger first impression (if you can get past the name).

+ Sony slims down, speeds up, and adds touch to its entire Reader family By admin 01 September 2010 at 2:00 am and have No Comments

With Amazon and Barnes & Noble both unleashing new e-readers under $150 it pretty much goes without saying that Sony’s got to step it up, and its refreshed Reader family is what we’ve been expecting. Just like we’d heard and heard again , Sony’s tweaked its entire Reader line up — the Pocket, Touch, and Daily editions — by adding improved optical touchscreens, speeding up page turns with E Ink Pearl displays and slimming down the brushed aluminum hardware. Beyond that, it’s also updated its Daily Edition with WiFi — there’s still no connectivity options for the other two

+ Sony’s LocationPorter real-time video transmission system goes multichannel By admin 29 August 2010 at 12:42 am and have No Comments

Back in February of 2009, the launch of Sony’s LocationPorter RVT-SD100 suggest that the days of needing a tricked out news van to transmit real-time on the scene video could be a thing of the past — that is, if you had a spare $18k lying around and a solid 3G data connection. The newly-announced RVT-SD200 and its companion RVT-MR200 expands upon that dream by enabling up to 12 LocationPorters to transmit images to one single receiver. Besides paving the way for armies of techno box-toting reporters — like the one pictured above — to relay news as it happens, Sony also sees the potential for emergency services like police forces and fire departments to make use of the equipment to relay critical information
