It was hard to be anything but disappointed when Intel’s dual-core Atom D510 processor started hitting nettops and was found to be no better performing than the earlier D330.

Are two (or more ) versions of an OS better than one? Some say yes, and it looks like you can now count Google among them

An 11.6-inch display fit within a thickness of 17.5mm. Sure, we’re mixing up our measurement systems, but whichever way you slice it, the X300 is one extremely thin device

Acer has rolled into CeBIT with a few all-new systems , but it’s also taken the opportunity to introduce some updates to its existing models, including six new revisions to its Aspire and TravelMate lines. Leading things off are the high(ish)-end Aspire 8942 and Aspire 5942, which pack 18.4 and 15.6-inch displays, your choice of the latest 2010 Core processors, an integrated TV tuner, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 1.2TB of storage (courtesy of to 640GB drives), and some niceties like a multitouch trackpad, and a CineSurround sound system with a “Tuba CineBass” booster

Some people have soft spots for puppies and panda bears; we have them for tiny laptops. Claiming to be the world’s smallest computer, USmart’s 4.8-inch MC-1 is about the size of a man’s wallet yet manages to pack the guts of a netbook. That’s right in that tiny little chassis is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage.

Paging all butterfly-admiring netbook lovers! With spring upon us, HP’s officially launching the Mini 210 Vivienne Tam edition that it previewed back at September’s Fall Fashion Week, and, well, it sure is unique looking. We actually got to take a peek at it a few weeks ago, and while the butterfly adorned cover may only appeal to a certain sex type, the gold covered keyboard is what you’d expect kings and queens to type on. Okay so, the design wasn’t really in line with our tastes, but at least we’re comfortable with the internal specs which are identical to the Mini 210 we recently reviewed (sans the Broadcom Crystal HD)

Now that’s how to get our attention. While the English-speaking portion of the Acer press conference left much to be desired, the second half, decidedly more German in vernacular, had a couple great tidbits. Most notable is a price of Acer’s AspireOne 532G , the ION 2-equipped netbook initially espied at Mobile World Congress

The rest is here:

Averatec ’s just outed its super thin, super light, 10-inch netbook, the N1200. Available in silver or black, it’s a good looking little package which weighs in at just 2.2 pounds

Bewildering. We’re pretty sure that’s the only way to describe our adventure at Smartbook’s CeBIT booth. First off, let us just clear up that there are absolutely no smartbooks on display — don’t forget that this is the company that’s going after Qualcomm’s jugular for using the term smartbook in the first place.
