Verizon leaks another Droid 2, getting BlackBerry Storm 3, Curve 3, 10.1-inch tablet later this year? 19 July 2010 at 12:53 am by admin

Now that the Droid 2 has officially reached “leaking like a sieve” status, we thought we’d toss you another couple shots of the Droid X’s QWERTY-equipped cousin, which we’re being told is locked for an August release on Verizon. If you’re more of the BlackBerry type, though, we’ve got some news for you, too: our source is telling us that both a Curve 3 and Storm 3 are “possible” for the holidays this year. If we had to guess, the Curve 3 is likely a variant of this 9300 we’ve been seeing lately, whereas the Storm 3 could be a version of the 9800 slider or an entirely new keyboardless slate.

+ Motorola responds to Droid X bootloader controversy, says eFuse isn’t there to break the phone By admin 16 July 2010 at 10:45 am and have No Comments

There’s been a lot of chatter going around the interwebs in the past 24 hours about the Droid X’s exceptionally well-locked bootloader — a situation that is going to make running custom ROMs considerably more difficult (bordering on impossible) compared to your average HTC. Specifically, the culprit is said to be a technology known as eFuse — developed by IBM several years ago — which allows circuits to be physically altered at the silicon level on demand.

+ Verizon catalog reveals Motorola Droid 2, new dumbphones By admin 13 July 2010 at 5:44 pm and have No Comments

We knew the original Droid’s replacement was coming, but we were never able to nail down the market name with confidence — until now, it seems. The Droid 2 makes a prominent appearance in an official catalog of Verizon devices leaked to BGR , talking up its 5 megapixel cam, 8GB of onboard storage, and 1GHz processor, positioning it just ever so slightly below the mighty Droid X

+ Motorola Charm official for T-Mobile: portrait QWERTY Android at long last By admin 07 July 2010 at 10:04 am and have No Comments

The rumored Charm has just gotten a proper unveiling from Motorola — and while it’s not getting nearly the media fanfare its Droid X corporate cousin did, it’s arguably even more unique. The phone features a full portrait QWERTY keyboard placed directly below a 2.8-inch landscape touchscreen, but for most operations, you don’t have to touch it if you don’t want to because you’ve also got a touchpad mounted on the back of the phone (the so-called “Backtrack”) much like AT&T’s Backflip .

+ Motorola Charm spotted in the wild, said to be hitting T-Mobile later this month By admin 06 July 2010 at 6:37 pm and have No Comments

We’d already had a pretty good indication that the Motorola Charm was headed to T-Mobile, but it looks like most doubt has now been put to rest — TmoNews has what appears to be the first shot of the phone in the wild, and evidence that materials (with the name “Project Basil’) are already arriving at T-Mobile stores. Unfortunately, there’s not much new information otherwise, but the site’s tipster has apparently confirmed that the phone does indeed have a Backflip -like touchpad on the rear and that the screen is around 3-inches. Still no word on an exact release date, but TmoNews says it should be rolling out by the end of the month.

+ Droid X already knocking on buyers’ doors? By admin 06 July 2010 at 6:01 pm and have No Comments

This seems to happen with virtually every hotly-anticipated device Verizon ever offers, so we can’t say we’re too surprised to hear rumors that Motorola’s Droid X has already started showing up in customers’ hands. Usually, this happens through a combination of persistence, repeated calls to customers service, and finding just the right rep who doesn’t realize that he or she shouldn’t be selling a particular device yet — but in the case of the Droid X, Verizon’s been teasing the launch with its @DroidLanding Twitter account, saying ” you might get yours before” the official July 15 release. In other words, we think we’re in the process of getting punked by some viral marketing..

+ Motorola Droid X review By admin 01 July 2010 at 11:40 am and have No Comments

The original Droid made a powerful statement. Actually, make that state ments , plural: for Motorola, it was the largest single affirmation that it was going all-in with Android (after having already released the far less memorable midrange CLIQ on T-Mobile) and that it could play in the very highest rungs of the smartphone elite. For Verizon, the Droid was the carrier’s very first Android device, period — announced to great fanfare in collaboration with Eric Schmidt and crew — serving as a pretty spectacular exit from the Windows Mobile / BlackBerry doldrums that the carrier’s smartphone lineup had historically suffered

+ Droid X ad pokes fun at iPhone 4 antenna troubles By admin 30 June 2010 at 4:31 pm and have No Comments

The world of corporate cheap shots has today been enriched in its number with one supersized ad for one supersized phone. BGR reports that Motorola took out a full-page spread in the New York Times on this final day of June, which was ostensibly dedicated to promoting the positives of its mighty Droid X. But Moto has also followed in the footsteps of Nokia in making a not so subtle jab at the latest king of the smartphone realm .

+ Droid 2 rumored to be launching August 23rd with Android 2.2 By admin 28 June 2010 at 1:31 pm and have No Comments

We’ve certainly gotten a peak at quite a few Droid 2 details so far, but word of a release date has unfortunately never been among them. That now looks to have changed, however, with the folks at Android and Me reporting that a “trustworthy source” has informed them that the phone will be launching on August 23rd
