It’s not at all clear what the root cause of the problem is, but we’ve noticed a big uptick in people complaining about performance issues on new 27-inch iMacs on Apple’s support boards. The most common symptom seems to be incredibly slow Flash video playback, but people are also claiming that there’s a bug forcing the hard drive to spin down, that there’s a corrupted Snow Leopard build preinstalled, and even that the problem is bad permissions, which is basically how an OS X user gives up trying to figure things out. Apple hasn’t said anything yet, but neither of the 27-inchers we have here are having problems, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed while we wait for an official resolution

It’s official, Olympus’ first MIcro Four Thirds camera is up and dancing upon the global stage. Dubbed, E-P1 “digital Pen” (reflecting the camera’s Olympus Pen-series heritage) aligns with the looks and specs that came our way yesterday in leaked format. In other words, we’re looking at image stabilized (sensor-shift) 12.3 megapixel Live MOS sensor with TruePic V image processing, ISO 100-6400 sensitivity, a 3-inch LCD, 20 shooting modes (5 exposure, i-Auto, and 14 automatic scenes), an SDHC slot, and HDMI TV-out for playback of 720p (1280×720 pixel) recorded video at 30fps

If you haven’t been following this phenomenon in geek culture, you’ve truly been doing yourself a grave disservice. Not quite an Obama-level disservice , but we digress. Just a few months after refreshing its SATA HDD dock to bring along multicard support , the outfit has done the multimedia crowd one better by offering up an HDMI-equipped version
