Border security guards kill — literally kill — a MacBook (update: video!) 16 December 2009 at 6:25 pm by admin

Young American woman travels over to Jerusalem to meet some friends, see the sights, live the life. Overzealous border security officers ask her a bunch of questions, take issue with her answers, and a few well-placed bullets later she is allowed entry into the country with a somewhat altered MacBook in tow. So what can we all learn from this incident?

+ Google files for Nexus One trademark By admin 15 December 2009 at 4:26 pm and have No Comments

The mystery of the Nexus One continues to grow ever deeper, but we can pretty much confirm Google’s planning to sell something under that name: the search giant filed an intent-to-use trademark application for “Nexus One” on December 10th, and in order to be granted the trademark registration it’ll have to use the mark in commerce at some point in the future. Now, don’t get too carried away — sure, that could mean free unlocked GSM Android sets for all, but it could also just mean Google’s planning to sell the Nexus One as its next-gen Android Developer Phone. Considering everything we’ve heard points to the device being limited to T-Mobile 3G, we’d say the developer phone theory is still the most likely, but it’s all up in the air until Google provides a sample of the Nexus One mark being used in commerce to the USPTO — or, better yet, announces something official.

+ Cygnus X1 PC casemod mixes otherworldly design, old world charm By admin 15 December 2009 at 11:36 am and have No Comments

We’ve seen plenty of PC casemods that look more like a traditional piece of furniture than a computer case, and plenty that take a decidedly more modern approach, but we haven’t seen many that combine the two as effectively as this so-called Cygnus X1 built by Attila Lukacs.

+ Toshiba announces 64GB NAND packages: Apple winks, gives a nudge By admin 15 December 2009 at 1:32 am and have No Comments

Outside of the occasional leaked roadmap, one of the best ways to predict the future of consumer electronics is by looking at the evolution of the components within. Take this Toshiba NAND package for instance. While the launch of a 64GB embedded NAND flash memory module (the highest capacity in the industry) that combines sixteen 32Gb NAND chips fabricated using 32nm manufacturing processes might sound a bit boring, consider its uses

+ Samsung unveils Android-equipped Galaxy Spica i5700 By admin 15 November 2009 at 9:56 pm and have No Comments

The long-rumored little brother to the Galaxy , the i5700 , has finally been made official by Samsung — and sure enough, it’ll go by the trade name “Galaxy Spica.” Sammy’s latest Android-powered set clocks in at 13.2mm thick and comes equipped with a 3.5mm jack (which, frankly, every smartphone in the world should be including at this point), an 800MHz core (presumably the same as the Moment’s ), and an Android first: built-in DivX support. This one appears to be a no-frills Google Experience device considering the number of times that “Google” is mentioned in Samsung’s press release, but for some Android connoisseurs, the purest, unskinned look and feel is preferred. Sammy says it’s already out in Europe and the CIS and will be coming to the Middle East and Asia shortly
